Google Meet Camera Not Working — Complete Fix Guide

Google Meet is the default video platform for over 300 million Google Workspace users. But Meet runs in your browser, which means camera issues are often browser-related rather than app-related. Here are 10 proven fixes for when Meet can't find your camera or shows a black screen.

Fix 1: Check Camera Permissions in Your Browser

Google Meet runs entirely in Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox. If your browser blocks the camera, Meet can't access it.

Fix 2: Select the Correct Camera in Meet Settings

Inside a Meet call: click ⋮ (More options) → Settings → Video. Under "Camera," use the dropdown to select your webcam. You should see a live preview. If you see multiple cameras (e.g., "OBS Virtual Camera"), pick the physical one.

Fix 3: Close Other Apps Using the Camera

Only one app at a time can access your webcam. Close any other open apps: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, OBS Studio, Discord, FaceTime. Also check browser tabs — another tab might be using the camera.

Fix 4: Restart Chrome or Edge
