Webcam Image Blurry? Here's How to Fix It

A blurry webcam makes you look unprofessional in every meeting. The good news: blurriness is almost never a hardware defect — it's focus, light, resolution or settings.

Why Your Webcam Is Blurry

• Autofocus hunting: the camera keeps refocusing on background objects.
• Low light: webcams use slow shutter speeds in the dark, causing motion blur.
• Low resolution: the app is sending 360p or 480p instead of 720p/1080p.
• Dirty lens: fingerprints and dust kill sharpness.
• Wrong distance: you're too close (minimum focus distance) or too far.

Fixes That Actually Work

• Light your face: a window or lamp in front of you, not behind (backlight = silhouette).
• Set the highest resolution: in Zoom/Teams settings choose 1080p (HD) if available.
• Clean the lens with a microfiber cloth.
• Lock focus if your software allows it (OBS, camera software like Logi Tune / Logi Capture).
• Sit 50-70 cm from the camera, at eye level.
• Upgrade if the camera is older than 5 years — a modern 1080p webcam costs under €60.
