Webcam Not Detected on Windows 11? Fix It Now

Windows 11 is strict about camera privacy. A camera can be perfectly functional yet invisible to every app until you fix the privacy and driver settings below.

Privacy Settings (Most Common Cause)

• Press Win + I → Privacy & Security → Camera.
• Turn ON "Camera access".
• Turn ON "Let apps access your camera".
• Make sure the app you use (Zoom, Teams, Edge, Chrome) is toggled ON in the list.
• Reboot after changing settings — Windows sometimes needs a restart to apply.

Device Manager & Drivers

• Right-click Start → Device Manager → expand Cameras.
• If your webcam has a down arrow, right-click → Enable device.
• Yellow triangle? Right-click → Update driver → Search automatically.
• Still broken? Right-click → Uninstall device, then reboot — Windows reinstalls the driver.
• Check Windows Update for optional driver updates (Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates).

Extra Checks

• Try the built-in Camera app — if it works, the hardware is fine and the issue is app permissions.
• Run the Camera troubleshooter: Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Camera.
• For USB webcams: try another USB port, ideally USB 3.0, and remove USB hubs.
• Check the Fn camera key / shutter on your laptop.
